The friction device, called Friction Brake Pad (FBP), dissipates vibration energy through friction and developed brake pads slide over steel surfaces. While presenting the test results, vibration performance of the damper with regard to dissipating dynamic forces energy is reviewed. It is observed that the designed damper has high capacity in absorbing dynamic forces energy and a high percentage of seismic energy may be dissipated into heat. The results show that sliding load of the damper is constant along its sliding path and the quantity is not released throughout sequential cycles. Dissipative performance of this damper is also analyzed through a five story steel frame with moment connections. Non-linear dynamic analyses reveal that lateral displacement of the frame is drastically reduced when damper are installed on it, while base shear at the frame is also controlled. It also shows that the frame has behaved linearly in strong earthquakes and no plastic hinges are developed in the columns or in any frame elements. It may therefore be said that the designed friction damper has special characteristics to reduce vibration energy in a structure subject to seismic forces while it can easily be installed on various types of conventional structures.}, keywords = {}, url = {http://www.jsee.ir/article_240558.html}, eprint = {http://www.jsee.ir/article_240558_4a3243c396df6c12909683876443892e.pdf} }
